Abundant Water & Upland Game

The annual PLOTS guide locates lands open to hunting through agreements between the Game & Fish Department and private landowners, as well as public lands such as wildlife management and waterfowl production areas. Printed guides are available in late August from license vendors or by visiting their website.

Audubon National Wildlife Refuge

Custer Mine Interpretive Site

Intersection of Highway 37 & Highway 83
The Custer Mine Interpretive Site is a parcel of land that showcases a piece of Garrison's early coal mining history. Formerly the Truax-Taer Mine, the site was established in 1989 as part of North Dakota's Centennial celebration. The site includes signage explaining the history of the area and a scenic overlook. A pond is also nearby for fishing.

Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery

Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery Provides management and production of many freshwater fishes for the Missouri River Dam development projects, National Wildlife Refuges, Native American waters, and state programs of North Dakota.

Lake Audubon

Audubon Lake, a sister lake to Lake Sakakawea, was also formed with the construction of the Garrison Dam near Riverdale, ND

Lake Sakakawea

Garrison is located on the north shore of beautiful Lake Sakakawea. The lake, named for the Native American woman who joined Lewis & Clark 200+ years ago, is the third-largest manmade lake in the United States.
